My work is a direct result of my engagement in art history and the development of conceptual art as it relates to painting. I have adopted a stance of experimentation as well as observance of traditional modalities in painting. I believe that through the exploration of traditional aesthetics, methods, and methodologies a contemporary artist can find a deep resource for engaging and contributing to the current discourses. It is through, around, and beneath these modes one can discover the underlying themes and forms our culture and subjective experiences. Furthermore, developing relevant critiques investigations and re-representations of this dynamic culture is contingent upon a commonality that has a foundation. The effect of communication technologies as well as digital visual tools has profoundly leveled the pictorial playing field. The visual artists must now contend with a wide array of materials and technologies as well as a diverse esthetic debate that is changing at ever increasing speed. Contemporary art has the duel responsibility of being self-aware of its structures, be willing to engage its past with freedom and revision, and then process all of this data despite the massive cacophony of contemporary culture. My work is an attempt to reconcile a vast array of interests and obsessions through the matrix of painting. My connections are as diverse as social criticism, explorations into psychology, wonderings in pataphysics, and exploringing in abstract fields. September, 2009
